Let's use Google Calendar

As you all probably realize, Drupal's calendaring solution(s) are from a previous decade. As big a fan of Drupal as I am, I still can't tolerate inefficient solutions.

I've been kinda/sorta maintaining a "San Diego Tech Events" calendar on Google Calendar for a while. It's a public calendar, but mostly for my own personal use. It is by no means a comprehensive calendar of tech events.

For those of you not familiar with Google calander, it's by far the best web-based system in existence. It does everything.

Day One of BarCamp

Where are all the Refresh folks? Only a couple showed up today.

The event is a smashing success :)

We had about 70 attendees today. Lots of presenters. The venue is perfect. Food, booze, powerpoint karaoke.

If you're free tomorrow, come on down and get a free tshirt screen printed on site!

Spam attack continues

I noticed that the site has been under quite a spam attack. It's scripts from 2375 different IPs all trying to auto post based on urls from the old site.

I've banned all 2375 IPs. I banned all IPs that tried to access .php scripts on the new site as no legit user should be trying to do that.

If anyone has trouble logging in, give me your/their IP and I'll make sure they aren't in the banned list. Banned IPs will get a 503 response (service unavailable) from the site.

Updates to site

Did the following with the website today:

  1. Installed event/calendar module
  2. Installed Image and img_assist modules for easy inclusion of images in posts (see the camera icon in the editor window when you post content).
  3. Removed 'story' content types. We can use blog and forum entries. We don't need stories.
  4. Working with Phelan on a suitable logo for the site. We may do a custom theme. If we have someone who can do site mockups, I can convert that into a theme.
