I've created a new forum for discussing the website itself.
The first thing we may want to address is the site theme. I know that's a touchy area for a lot of people. Personally, I really like the current default drupal theme. I think I'll put up a poll to see what people think.
I have a feeling this new site may become quite active. Now that it's in Drupal, there are all sorts of things we can do with it.
Some of the things we might get going once folks are comfortable on the new site:
- Event Calendar - for both refresh events and other local events relevant to the San Diego tech community
- Services directory - the various services we offer collectively in an easily searchable format
- Geo-coding of events and businesses
I could go on and on :)

I'd also like to see profile pages where you can add more info and connect with friends, like a social network. Didn't someone say at the Refresh meet that there is a module for that? Buddy list or something??

There are several ways to extend the user profiles. If you simply want to add additional information fields, you can do that with the profile module that comes with Drupal. However, a lot of sites need more elaborate profiles and use more advanced solutions requiring multiple modules and non-trivial configuration.
We should discuss what we'd like to get out of profiles, and I can implement the appropriate solution.
