So, you've built out the most amazing web 2.0 app the world has seen? You built it on Ruby on Rails , Drupal , Joomla , Django , or maybe even rolled your own CMS using a popular programming language. You spent hours perfecting your API, you take feeds from popular websites, and you have AJAX down to a science.
So what now? The next step is to launch your site.
But where?
This thread is dedicated to talking about web hosting. Let's narrow it down to the things that matter most to us: price, performance, support and technologies.
I will contribute the first review here so we can talk about our experiences.
Price:
~$10/month (less on 1-2 year prepay) and up. Liberal amounts of Bandwidth and Disk space, however they can be very stingy if your site starts to take off and very well may ask you to upgrade to a dedicated server for really heavy load sites. This won't affect 95% of you out there.
Performance:
For normal php sites with not too much going on, this is a really reasonable host. Static HTML sites are fast, but to be honest there are faster hosts. Hosting Drupal or Joomla will likely get your account banned if you have even a moderate amount of traffic due to the liberal database queries. A bit of optimization and you can make it work, but on more than one occasion I have had up to several hours of downtime with them on various sites I've worked on.
Support:
Their support has always been pretty good for me. You can get a live person on the phone in a fairly quick amount of time. At peak times you may have to wait or call back a few times, but like I said, it's been pretty good. I believe the exception to this is during downtime. When they start having problems (which is way to often IMHO) you can't get hold of anyone there.
Technology:
They support Perl, PHP, Ruby on Rails, but I have not worked with that technology using DH. They support just about everything you need to get started. I woud not recommend them for all but the most basic entry level of web sites.
Bottom line:
Dreamhost is not very good. Why, you ask, would I spend this much time to bad mouth a single hosting provider? Well, I wanted to give an honest review of them. I have used them in the past, I have several client sites up on there (their choice, not mine) and would not recommend them for anything serious.

Pair hosting
Hi:
I've had good luck hosting with Pair.com for about 8 years. It's affordable, you get your own IP address and web sites you host with them after the first one are $1 a month.

Drupal hosting
For drupal hosting, I recommend Bryght . They are not a $10/month operation, but they provide a solid platform optimized for Drupal and performance is great.
In general, I steer all clients away from cheapie hosting. The price may be right, but the service and performance never is. If you're doing a personal site and don't really care if the site is fast or accessible, no problem, but if you're hoping to run any sort of business on the web, pay for a host that cares about your site. It's just worth it.
